My response: We're cutting our weekly trips to Costco down to once or twice a month and I turned away one of my customers in Pierce County (fuel + time > revenue). I'm pretty sure my competition up there will be able to solve the fuel + time equation.
You don't need to be an economist or have an MBA to spot the potential for a macro economic trend here. The Bush economy is on thin ice. That is truly sad, because it's one of the few things the GOP can point to GW for. Based on debate on the topic so far, I seriously doubt JKerry or Hillary could find a solution here either, even if it was taped to their pants.
BTW Re-gouging fuel companies or price caps doesn't count as a solution...it counts as driving suppliers away from the market and making sure there will be no gas to buy at all.
On a related note: There is no public ethanol E/85 fueling stations in Thurston County or anywhere in Washington for that matter. Letter to Christine supporters: that one is not GW's fault...a lot of folks have E/85 rigs-> where do you reckon they could fill it up?
