It will likely cost more in the short term, but not as much as the long term effects of the looming war with Iran. War with Iran at this point is not an “if” rather a “when.” The United Nation’s toothless resolutions and unenforced sanctions will not work to eliminate Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon.
WHEN (not IF) we take out Iran’s nuclear capability and every day until then, Iran and the supporting anti-American countries will be holding oil over our head. Why on earth would we leave our energy dependency and the life force of our economy in the hands of terrorists who intend to kill us with our own gas money?
So WHEN we knock out Iran’s nuclear capability, we had better be prepared for a tremendous spike in energy prices.
Next, suppose Iran is successful in playing the United Nations like a harp from hell. If history predicts the future, they likely will do exactly that for another decade while developing an even more potent and dangerous WMD strategy. Iran and the supporting terrorist countries will inevitably do their best to economically delay our transition to other fuel sources by flooding the market with crude and drive the futures prices back down to a level where ethanol and biodiesal cannot compete with artificially cheap crude. At the same time American's will lose the desire to tap ANWR or to further invest in ethanol production and distribution capabilities. It's all about the required rate of return for this- the government as it stands now is completely impotent to make it happen.
To be honest, I really think WalMarts current distribution system is the key to beating foreign oil. Remember liberals- the enemy of your enemy is your friend. Walmart is the juggernaut of the enemies when it comes to this game.
Lastly- Let’s address the oil market as a global market. Yes, other countries will be consuming the cheap oil with reckless abandon. This is irrelevant if we have the will to focus on alternate energy sources. WHY? Because WHEN the global market catches cold, which is exactly WHEN we strike Iran’s nukes, we surely don't want to be among those that catch cold from Iran’s forthcoming energy temper tantrum.
Sure my heating bill isn’t going to be the tipping point in the economic viability of alternative energy, but I vote with my dollars and I’m not giving my votes for the terrorists to win if I can avoid it.
A political blog of all things Thurston (aka Hazard County) and many things from the fathers' rights front. The Olympian's Brad Shannon says this about the opinion and commentary expressed on this blog: "Filled with hate," "Disturbed," "Out of the mainstream." Hey, that's a call to action for the Tea Party generation if ever there was one.

Pharmacists Should Tell Gregoire to Sell Plan C
Gregoire announced a compromise. Sell Plan B or she’ll run you out of business
I don’t have a strong opinion about the choice of some pharmacies not wanting to carry the drug. I’m more aligned with Dr Drew and Darwin on helping people [too dumb to use birth control correctly] to not reproduce.
However the plan b debate is about the rights of businesses to sell or not sell products based on their own moral compass. The convenience of customers is choice, not mandate. Customers may vote with their dollars. The mandate is akin to Gregoire forcing sporting goods stores to carry products sewn together by dime a day child labor. A better example would be forcing doctors to perform abortions.
What freedoms does Gregoire intend to restrict next?

Stick to the issues
In today's Zero Keri Brenner calls BS on Macleod's mud slinging. Good job, the Zero has about 5 good stories a year. This is one of them.
Macleod- why don't you stick to speaking to issues that affect us?
You sat there while the permit department raised the fee for a home business permit to $1000, nearly a 10X increase to "cover the costs" incurred by the department. I don't think county employees are making $120 an hour- nor incurring costs of 200 per hour.
What cost is this? a $15/hr employee walking over to the printer and sticking the permit in an envelope?
If a guy loses or quits his job and wants to start a business- paying off every tom dick and harry agency of the government for BS is a privelidge we could do with less of.
Small business can't afford people like Macleod who let waste and nonsense like this run rampant and don't question their own costs or the necessity of those costs.
Another issue- why does every County truck appear to be a new Ford F250???? Really? The Ranger at about 1/3 the cost and twice the fuel efficiency won't haul the leaf blower out to the park on Steamboat Island and Boston Harbor?
I wish Macleod would be as inquisitive and concerned about these types of issues as he is with his challenger's "deliberate deception."
It's a pretty sad day in local politics when the captain of the Titanic bitches about size of the font on the side of the rescue boat.

Big tobacco puts smack down on Washington State.
No, not the law you were thinking of. This was the law to protect “the children.” It violates the first amendment. I would hope MO and RAI would be going after the violation of property rights law as well, but I guess these things take time.
I don’t smoke, but I sure love the stock. If you do smoke, what part of “you’re an idiot” do you not understand? Thanks for the dividend anyway.

Darwin at work
When we take 24 of their agents in the act of committing terror, we give them rice pilaf and salmon for dinner while talking nicely to them in comfortable rooms.
When they take one of our guys, they gouge out his eyeballs, skin him alive and leave the burned mutilated body hanging from a bridge. Please, explain to me how we intend to win this war?
Someone in this war means business and intends to win. It doesn't appear to be the Americans.

Why Cantwell is useless to anyone in Wa
Rest assured, Camp Cantwell won't be blasting their highway dollar success over the radio during commute times. Another more timely example is on the subject of minimum wage. Were we going to get a book report on the law from Maria and Pati-cakes once it passes? I'm all for small government, but at least go to the trouble of having a position on an issue.
The times states:
"The tipped-workers' provision looked likely to heighten Democratic opposition and could factor into decision-making by lawmakers who haven't yet made their position known, including Democratic Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington state."
If history repeats itself- you can probably look for these two to respond with the intelligence of hung over sorority girls faking being awake at an 8:00 am history class without having read the assigned chapters.

Protests mount against stores refusing to stock Plan B contraceptive
I applaud a business having the choice to decide what products they want to stock and what they won't stock, whether I agree with the specific choice or not. Voters have the ability to vote with their dollars and feet. The smoking ban for instance should have been left to businesses, just as a business can choose to sell or not sell cigarettes or beer.
The irony in Plan B is that women are outraged that someone dare limit their choice of pregnancy options after sex.
Welcome to the world a man faces after sex without a condom. How moronic does it sound to hear moralists preaching "you should have kept your pants on." ??
By the way, why exactly were these women having unprotected sex if they didn't intend to get pregnant? Why did you have sex without a condom? You should be responsible for your decisions.
yep this is all the BS a man hears when he has sex and a pregnancy occurs. Let's see, women have over 10 forms of birth control which the correct use of is never apparent to men while men have condoms and the correct use of those is abundantly apparent to women.
