HB 1182- "Abandon rational thought and wipe dad from the family bill."
This bill should not be passed and in a logical world it would not have even been given a hearing. However since the domestic violence lobby and the BAR have come to Olympia to get their annual pony ride from the legislature- the many male victims of our Thurston County family law industry need to speak up.
HB 1182 makes legal and common actions in post divorce life a "threat of abduction." In my years of following these custody battles, I've observed that local ambulance chasers like to run the bill up large on the women by encouraging any and every inflammatory technique and accusation available. They throw everything at the wall in order to see what sticks with the billing clock running. Meanwhile hubby in turn goes into debt big time to fight this and at the end of the day- both parties are broke.
By the time wifey cools down and realizes she's in hock up to her ears for the false accusations and mud slinging- everyone is bankrupt but the lawyers. It's literally clock work. So if the desired end state is to pay for Meserve's next Lexus while sending a lot of families to the poor house- it has been drafted correctly.
HB1182 provides legal grounds for ordinary life events (and very legal actions) to be turned into catastrophic abuses in determinations of child custody. Consider the following criteria the bill lists as risks of abduction. These are all common place in most divorces and post separation life:
- Non-residential parents move one or more times while establishing a new residence.
- Job changes are frequent during life changing events- even more so during the current economy.
- Both parties liquidate community assets during the course of divorces.
- Both parties close joint bank and brokerage accounts during the dissolution process.
BUT WAIT- THERE'S MORE!!!!!
It's amazing how much damage can be done by an interest group with a flirtatious Asian lawyer trotting out DV victims at regular intervals to a legislative body that never questions the non sequitur logic. The bill is supposedly to protect victims of domestic violence.
That's right- the DV mafia's claim is that wimmen victims of domestic violence are at risk of getting beat even more by their husbands who take the kids to another country and never return.
Seriously this is their logic.
Scary part? The legislature buys it every time.
