L&I jacks rates by 12%: Atlas responds with a shrug

Barely a week after voters (10% of whom are unemployed) voted to not allow private insurance to compete against the state monopoly, L&I announced it was jacking rates by 12%.

The irony is I was doing the books for the year and looking at the amount of pick pocketing and extortion various state and federal agencies are doing to a side business I own and I had already made the decision to downsize and jettison my hired labor force.

How the math works: If you removed all of the government extortion from the cost side of the work I got rid of, the math justified the time and headache. When you add in the government extortion, my time and money was not really mine, it was the government's; I take all the risk and government employees take too much of the gain. Geeze, with this environment why on earth would I not look to move my labor costs to another state or country?

Granted this is an itty bitty side business and won't shutter Olympia, but you can credit Christine Gregoire for destroying a couple of jobs here locally. How many other itty bitty Atlas's need to shrug before they get a clue?

Don't think I'm shooting myself in the foot to spite government. There are higher value uses of my time and money than dealing with employees.

Hi! :D I drifted over here from Sound Politics. I think I will add it to my list of "reads".

I came over here because I received an email from a friend this morning. She was trying to drum up volunteers for ballot rehabilitation. In case you don't know what this entails, volunteers contact voters whose ballots have been rejected due to poor signatures and have them update their signatures/voter information with their county auditor's office so that their ballots can be counted. Additional ballots may make a difference in which way some of these close races finish.

I decided to do my best to reach as many people as possible who might be able to help with this effort, in order to possibly improve John Koster's chances. I realize you are not in Koster's district, but you may make a difference in other races (including the judicial race between Sanders and Wiggins). Please call your local GOP headquarters to find out what you can do to aid in this last burst before the finish line! Ask if they need volunteers to help with ballot rehabilitation or if they need election observers to observe the processing of ballots. I appreciate your help!!!
