Anyone else smell a Duke Lacrosse shake down on this Tacoma "S&M Torture Chamber" story?

It never pays to chase a Jerry Springer story like this, but the hooker accusing the Tacoma dude with kidnapping and torture smells like a shakedown.

While any jack ass picking up a hooker deserves what they get in both VD and extortion, this story has a lot of holes in it.

  • She is creeped out early in the evening and puts on a blind fold anyway?

  • The text message is to her 'boyfriend'--- er you mean pimp.

  • uh how much time and low voltage current passes before you mention the text message?

I could go on for pages... but its pretty sick. I don't doubt there was S&M going on however I'm betting she knew the deal when walking in and just decided to change the price after the freaky-teaky went down, and when he cheaped out for only a second hundred, she got a good night of sleep and then called the cops.

The dumbest defense attorney in the history of law could poke a billion holes in the story. Let's hope for the good of society that neither the hooker nor the John in this story procreate. Both should be charged and convicted of being morons. I suspect prosecutors see this accusation for what it is but are going to hang this guy out in the wind for contributing to the area's rampant prostitution problem and to set an example for morons everywhere.

In other news, the actual Duke Lacrosse accuser was recently charged with murder.

Initiative 1122- Do not sign/ vote no. Post 2

I'm bumping this as it is a good topic where I think the 1122 initiative owners don't have a good understanding of small business and the impact of process overhead to a small business owner.

The logic of 1122 is this: Because the federal government refuses to enforce the border and immigration laws, we need to force every employer to register every employee with the federal government. The docs may still be bogus, but the burden of filing the paperwork will make us feel like we are trying.

I am VERY much in favor of immigration enforcement. A lot of conservatives have been asking me to get on board with 1122. Most of the 1122 text I am fine with. In theory I am -FOR- going after businesses that exploit illegal aliens as cheap labor. However 1122 is like asking a gun owner to register all of his guns with the federal government because someone else used a gun in a crime.

I have run a small business. I have had employees. and like a lot of businesses, I have had long periods of operating at slim margins. I also had the un-fun of dealing with a lot of government sticking their noses into my affairs. I am no light weight when it comes to process and details- but I can honestly say that dealing with all the government do-nothing-bullies is a major killer of small businesses.

Think of it. Last quarter I had no employees on the payroll, but if I fail to file L&I and UI forms, both of those agencies are going to fine me about $100 for failing to let them know I did no business and had no employees. Sometimes you file and do it right, and they get it wrong and still fine you. Since when is MORE government ever the right answer to any problem?

Think of the 19 year old kid, full of ambition and who does EXACTLY what this country needs: which is to start a new business...and soon he/she is growing that business and creating jobs (while they themselves may be working for free during that time). That is a very fragile process and most of the time it fails to get off the ground. We MUST eliminate as much government dead weight from the process as possible- else this country's economy will be dead and remain dead.

I've already taken several of my small business chips off the table because I got tired of screwing with "big brother's paperwork" (I also wanted my weekends back), lets not kill any more businesses with 1122 because the likes of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi refuse to secure the nation's border.

The State Budget and the Predictable Road to Economic Collapse

Begin rant.
This column from the WSJ online earlier in the month is a thought provoking read with some eye opening numbers. Stephen Moore is spot on, my comrades. The economic road down will continue until commerce and industry employment gets back to outnumbering government workers at all levels of government. It's the basic revenue/cost equation that people around this town don't like to or are unable to acknowledge. Hey, I understand the personal paradigm and Machiavellian thing. But, the reality is that Atlas simply can't support the weight any longer. He hath shrugged my friend and John Galt has left the building (and the state . . . e.g. Boeing). Actually, it's more than a shrug. Atlas has been crushed like an ant under a burgundy Wing Tip. Government jobs, entitlement programs, and taxes are costs and increased regulations (by lawyers who have taken over our government at all levels) make it an even tougher road to hoe for the producers. This is why I, frankly, don't give a shit anymore. I'm tired of the political debate and the left vs. right crap. It's a farce and a charade. Until the bloated government is reduced by at least another 50% (to start), term limits implemented and all lawyers are removed and banned from future political races and public service jobs, forget about it. There's nothing to discuss. It's a sinking ship until the reset button is depressed and the U.S. Republic (with it's Constitution) is restored. The cuts they are arguing over this last week are laughable. They don't even begin to address the problem. A government shut down? That would have been nice. Really, don't expect me to get all wound up and glued to CSPAN, FOX, CNN etc. ranting and raving with Glenn Beck or John Stossel (God Bless 'em). No, I won't hold my breath. I cancelled the stupid cable. Just let me know if they figure out and broadcast where John Galt went. Meanwhile, I'll be ready for the collapse and His return (and I don't mean John Galt's return). Will you? I hope so. Get ready, 'cuz here it comes.
End rant.

We've Become a Nation of Takers, Not Makers

More Americans work for the government than in manufacturing, farming, fishing, forestry, mining and utilities combined.

By STEPHEN MOORE

If you want to understand better why so many states—from New York to Wisconsin to California—are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, consider this depressing statistic: Today in America there are nearly twice as many people working for the government (22.5 million) than in all of manufacturing (11.5 million). This is an almost exact reversal of the situation in 1960, when there were 15 million workers in manufacturing and 8.7 million collecting a paycheck from the government.

It gets worse. More Americans work for the government than work in construction, farming, fishing, forestry, manufacturing, mining and utilities combined. We have moved decisively from a nation of makers to a nation of takers.
