Just got this bit of mass mail spam from the Secretary of State's office.
So in one month I have L&I sending me bogus invoices for 2 quarters on a closed account AND employment security doing the same thing, and now it looks like the Secretary of States office learned how to use SQL and decided to do a mass nebulous mailing to small business owners. Honestly my businesses would have higher productivity w/ less interaction with the government.
Is it just me or does the action required below just represent another office in government sticking their finger up our butts? As I noted yesterday, I'm willing to partake in the shared sacrifice of less government. Exactly how many fewer millionaires and billionaires with corporate jets do we need before we end useless areas of our government? If I had legal advisers, I'd consult them on that question instead of the one posed by Patrick Reed below.
Note I do have a UBI on an LLC that did register papers with the SOS office and for that honor they send an annual invoice. Other than keeping Mr Reed below on the state's payroll, I have no idea what my business gets in return for that recurring state revenue.

Have you been doing business in Washington without proper registration?
We are sending this message because you registered with the Washington State Department of Revenue either as a Corporation or a Limited Liability Company. However, it appears you have not registered with the Office of the Secretary of State. If you are a foreign entity doing business in Washington, state law requires that you obtain a Certificate of Authority. If you are a Washington business, you have not formed a Corporation or Limited Liability Company until you have registered your Articles of Incorporation, or Certificate of Formation. (references RCW 23B, RCW 25, RCW 24)
Failure to be properly registered could result in difficulty obtaining or renewing different types of business licenses, could affect your ability to obtain financing or win contracts, could create legal challenges, and could affect your state and/or federal tax rate.
You may want to consult your legal advisors as to whether your business should be registered with the Office of the Secretary of State. Should you decide to register you may do so by submitting the appropriate form along with payment. Be sure to include your existing Unified Business Identifier (UBI) number and follow the instructions provided on the forms.
If you have recently registered your business with the Office of the Secretary of State, please disregard this message.
