The left likes to crucify rich individuals who contribute big money to politics, but only when its politics they disagree with. I'm not holding my breath to hear the outrage over big money going into the left's support for gay marriage.
This was a law passed by our elected officials. Our elected officials views on this issue should not vary from the popular vote so much that millions in campaign contributions are needed? Washington State is largely left leaning, so why exactly does a state that votes for "progressive" failures time and again need this much financial coercion to vote for what is being portrayed as "equal rights." This isn't a sales tax bill where it will cost each of us money.
For the record, I whole heartedly support the rights of rich individuals to put money behind campaigns, regardless of their political view. I think it is telling that a viewpoint that claims to be righteous has to spend this much coin to convince left leaning voters of that.
Gay marriage is like a turkey burger, dress it up any way you like, it's not a hamburger. You can put it on the menu for those who want it (civil unions), but don't try and pass it off as a hamburger.
In case you missed this episode of turkey vs beef burger, Ron Swanson gives everyone a plain hamburger on a bun with an optional squeeze of ketchup and unanimously wins the taste test.
